Prepare a collagen powder sampling brief: ingredient source, serving mass, mixing conditions, pack, acceptance criteria and quotation scope for a US brand.

What belongs in a collagen powder sampling brief?

Use one dated brief covering the ingredient specification, proposed serving mass, flavor or exclusions, mixing conditions, intended pack and the sample decision you need to make. Mark each field as fixed, proposed or open for development. This approach also supports discussions of electrolyte and protein powders, with the ingredient-specific questions reviewed separately. NutraGuild coordinates ODM development or OEM specification discussions with a manufacturing partner; it does not own a factory. Availability and feasibility require project confirmation.

Identify the collagen material and the complete blend

  • Request the source species, material identity, supplier specification and traceability information for the proposed collagen. State any source restrictions and whether an alternative may be assessed.
  • Identify the requested material form and any specified grade or characteristics. A description such as marine collagen or collagen peptides alone is not a complete purchasing specification.
  • List collagen ingredient mass, every other ingredient and the total proposed serving mass. Distinguish the weight of an ingredient preparation from its declared constituents; do not infer a protein declaration from the blend name.
  • Specify unflavored or flavored presentation, sweetness, color, odor preferences and excluded ingredients. Request source and allergen statements for the full blend. Fish is a US major food allergen; any fish-derived ingredient needs product-specific allergen and label review.

Make the mixing trial repeatable

  • Identify the sample code, formula revision, ingredient version and any differences from the proposed production blend.
  • Record the powder mass, liquid type and volume, liquid temperature, mixing device, mixing time and observation intervals before comparing samples.
  • Use those same conditions for each comparison; record clumps, dispersion, foam, sediment, taste and texture separately rather than giving one unexplained pass or fail.
  • Agree which observations are acceptance criteria and who approves them. Request another identified sample when a material, flavor or process changes.
  • Assess the proposed scoop or sachet using the actual blend. A scoop volume does not establish a fixed gram weight across formulations.

Record what sample acceptance actually covers

Keep a decision record with the sample identifier, conditions, observations, accepted attributes and unresolved differences. Distinguish a sensory or mixing decision from analytical results, microbiological quality and shelf-life evidence. An attractive or easy-mixing sample does not establish those other properties. Before production, reconcile the accepted version with the specification, pack and test plan; record who may approve a substitution and which assessments a change requires.

Specify the powder and pack together

  • Tubs: net fill, servings per tub, container and closure, seal and scoop; ask for the proposed fill and handling to be assessed with the actual blend.
  • Pouches: net fill, dimensions, closure or reseal expectations and the barrier requirements to evaluate for the intended storage conditions.
  • Sachets: grams per sachet, sachets per retail box, printed variants and separate filling and component minimums.
  • For every pack: identify the contact-material specification, artwork revision, coding and any distribution conditions to assess. A pack photograph is a reference, not evidence of suitability.

Agree the specifications and batch-document scope

Request the ingredient and finished-blend specifications, proposed tests, methods, acceptance limits and responsible laboratory. For US dietary supplements, 21 CFR 111.70 addresses component, finished-product, packaging and labeling specifications; it does not prescribe one universal collagen test panel. Agree the batch COA and supporting records needed for the release decision. Ask what supports the proposed storage conditions and shelf life for the final blend and pack. A raw-material COA alone does not establish conformity of the finished batch.

Convert the powder MOQ into the pack you are quoting

The partner baseline recorded September 15, 2026 is 100 kg of bulk powder. That is 100,000 g: at 500 g per tub it equals 200 tubs, or at 10 g per sachet it equals 10,000 sachets, before allowances. These are arithmetic examples, not serving recommendations, confirmed packs or guaranteed saleable quantities. Confirm the minimum per formula and flavor, component purchases, test and retained samples, agreed allowances and expected finished-pack count in the RFQ.

Request sample and production quotations separately

Send the brief revision, US sales channel, formula status, bulk or packed requirement, pack size, estimated quantity and variants. For samples, request the purpose, quantity, revision rounds, included documentation, charges and dispatch assumptions. For production, compare the same formula, pack, test scope and delivery point; separate price per kilogram from price per finished pack. Obtain written development, testing, packing and freight charges and separate timelines with their start conditions. The brief is a procurement aid, not an approved formulation or a batch-release record.
