Supplement packaging: build a specification before artwork

Compare bottles, sachets and other supplement packaging by product fit, count, handling and artwork requirements before requesting a project quotation.

Procurement planning guidance. Confirm requirements for your product, formulation version and market.

01

Begin with the product and serving format

Packaging should be discussed against the formula, unit size, fill quantity and intended use. A bottle that looks suitable in a reference image may not suit the proposed product or count. Identify the selling unit, servings per pack and how the buyer will use or measure the product. Ask which component choices need compatibility, handling or other verification for your version.

02

Specify the complete pack

  • Container material, dimensions, fill or count, color and any proposed protective components.
  • Closure, liner, seal and dispensing or measuring components where applicable.
  • Label dimensions, print method, artwork version and space for required information.
  • Carton, case quantity, batch/date marking and logistics requirements.
  • Component MOQ, tooling or setup charges, and responsibility for artwork and fit checks.
03

Separate a visual mockup from a production component

A mockup helps agree appearance. A physical sample can answer questions about fit, handling and legibility. Ask whether either represents the components proposed for the actual order. Confirm the print area, tolerances, color reference and version of the artwork before authorizing production. Keep the approved artwork and packaging specification linked to the formula and finished-pack configuration.

04

Review the US label before committing to print

Use current FDA information and qualified review for the actual product. FDA's labeling guide is an orientation resource; its publication date and later requirements need to be considered. Product identity, ingredient information, serving information, claims and responsible-party details should be checked as a connected label. A supplier mockup or an FDA facility registration does not amount to approval of your label.

05

Compare commercial assumptions

A standard container and a custom component can involve different purchasing quantities and setup work. Request separate confirmation of the packaging component minimum and the finished-product MOQ. Agree who owns custom tooling, who holds unused components and how changes are approved for reorders. Shelf life, storage conditions, price and lead time require support for the actual product and pack; they cannot be inferred from an attractive design.
