Supplement MOQ: compare quantities and packaging assumptions
Compare supplement MOQ units, formula and flavor runs, packaging minimums and finished-pack quantities, with worked planning examples for US brand buyers.

Separate three quantities before comparing MOQ
Ask for the production minimum, the packaging-component purchase minimum and the expected saleable finished-pack quantity. A production minimum may be stated in kilograms, individual gummies or capsules, or filled bottles. A label printer may quote a different unit and quantity. Record each separately against one formula revision and pack configuration. A low number without a unit or scope cannot tell you how many retail packs you can order or how much stock you must fund.
Convert the recorded partner baselines into packs
- The partner baselines recorded September 15, 2026 are planning references, not current project quotations. Confirm applicability and any allowances in the written RFQ.
- Gummies: 30,000 individual pieces divided by 60 per bottle equals 500 bottles before allowances.
- Hard capsules: 30,000 capsules divided by 60 per bottle equals 500 bottles before allowances.
- Softgels: 150,000 softgels divided by 60 per bottle equals 2,500 bottles before allowances.
- Powder: 100 kg equals 100,000 g; divided by 500 g per tub it equals 200 tubs before allowances. Pack sizes here are arithmetic examples, not confirmed packaging offers.
Ask which variants require their own run
List each formula, strength, flavor and pack configuration as a separate line. Ask whether the production minimum applies to each line and which, if any, can share a run. In a hypothetical quotation requiring 30,000 pieces for each of two flavors, the combined requirement is 60,000 pieces, not 30,000 split in half. That example is arithmetic, not a confirmed NutraGuild two-flavor offer. A change to the ingredient purchase or production process may require another quotation.
Make packaging commitments and leftovers explicit
Request separate minimums for the bottle or pouch, closure, label, carton and any custom tooling. For illustration, 500 filled bottles and a minimum purchase of 1,000 printed labels would leave 500 labels before damage or allowances; it would not automatically require a 1,000-bottle production order. Ask who pays for, owns, stores and reconciles unused components, and what happens after an artwork change. Confirm whether standard components can be quoted for the initial order.
Reconcile planned output with the quantity you receive
Define how process allowances, test samples, retained units and packing differences affect the delivered quantity. Ask for the agreed quantity tolerance and whether the price applies to input units, produced units or accepted finished packs. Record the treatment of shortfalls, excess output and unused bulk before ordering. The divisions above establish planning quantities only; they do not guarantee saleable yield, batch acceptance or a quantity available for shipment.
Put the same fields beside each quotation
- Formula revision and each flavor, strength and artwork variant covered.
- Production minimum, its unit and whether it applies per run or per variant.
- Units or grams per finished pack, plus expected accepted pack count and quantity tolerance.
- Component purchase quantities, unused stock and any storage or disposal charges.
- Development, samples, testing, tooling, packaging and delivery charges, with the recurring unit price kept separate.
- Price validity, payment assumptions, timing dependencies and the named approval responsibilities.
Explore tradeoffs through RFQ
If the proposed minimum is too large, ask whether a standard pack component, fewer variants or a revised production scope can be quoted. Treat those as options for assessment rather than guaranteed reductions. Compare total cash required, development charges, testing and packaging commitments alongside the unit price. A lower production quantity can still require a larger component purchase.
Send a quantity brief that can be quoted
State the product and formula status, intended US channel, format, units or grams per pack, pack count and variants. Give an estimated first order and identify any reorder scenario as a forecast rather than a commitment. Ask for a written response to the comparison fields above. NutraGuild coordinates the brief with its manufacturing partner; the project quotation establishes the applicable MOQ. Quality and release documentation remain separate from quantity arithmetic; the FDA source below provides that quality-system context, not evidence of commercial minimums.
